Background & Experience:
Kelly Mahan has over ten years of experience in the mental health and addiction recovery field. She began her journey through the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counseling (DARC) program at Gateway Community College, where she became a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC). Kelly has worked extensively as a recovery coach for over six years, supporting individuals through both early recovery and long-term growth. Her experience spans group counseling, individual therapy, and couples counseling, with a focus on fostering resilience and sustainable change. Kelly’s professional and lived experience combine to create an empathetic and grounded approach to counseling.
Current Practice
Kelly is currently completing her residency with Bergvik Counseling Services, under the supervision of Tom Bergvik, while pursuing her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2023–present). She is also an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), reinforcing her commitment to ethical practice and professional development.
Areas of Focus
Kelly brings a client-centered, recovery-oriented approach to Bergvik Counseling Services. Her areas of focus include:
- Addiction and Recovery – supporting clients through all stages of recovery using harm reduction and strengths-based methods.
- Mental Health Counseling – helping individuals navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, and co-occurring disorders.
- Couples and Relationship Support – assisting couples in rebuilding trust, communication, and connection.
- Harm Reduction & Resilience – offering practical strategies to manage stress and maintain long-term well-being.
With both professional training and lived experience, Kelly provides compassionate, culturally sensitive care to diverse communities, empowering clients to pursue healthier and more fulfilling lives.
