For many people struggling with an addiction or a mental illness, therapy is, quite literally, out of reach. Some live in rural areas where the closest therapist is miles away; others suffer from physical or mental disabilities that make traveling difficult; and still others are too busy with school or work to find the time to make it to their next therapy appointment. It is for these reasons that my practice provides online counseling, also known as online therapy or e-counseling, so that everyone can have access to mental healthcare.
What is online counseling?
Online counseling is the exact same as in-person counseling, with one major difference: your therapy session is conducted online rather than in person. I do this to help patients who are unable to reach my Hamden, CT office, whether it be due to time constraints, disabilities, or other reasons.
I use a variety of platforms to make online counseling as accessible as possible, including:
-
- Facetime
- Zoom
- Skype
- Google Hangouts
Are online counseling therapy sessions right for me?
No single form of therapy is right for everyone. Instead, treatment must be curtailed to the individual for it to be the most effective. While in-person therapy sessions are certainly beneficial, there are some individuals who may struggle to make it to the office for a variety of reasons (e.g. lack of time, distance between office and home, disabilities, etc.). If you are interested in online counseling, then we can discuss whether this is a good option for you going forward prior to or during your initial appointment.
Please note: online patients must still have a Connecticut mailing address to qualify.
